The Special Relationship is a well worn label. Japan and China have no special relationship. Quite the contrary. One issue with the muddy puddles is the baby, America, has twice had to save the eastern parent from its own excesses. Another is language. America is, from a business perspective, more of a Dutch-German culture. Prior to the Empire, the Dutch ruled the commercial world. The Germans were not a naval culture until later, and Germans never had the colonial presence.
