Some time ago, I was speaking with a person who told me about xes suicide attempt. Xe vividly recalled the first thought xe had when the medical professionals brought xem back to life. Something to the effect, 'damn, they didn't let me die'.
Why is euthanasia civilised while well considered suicide is not? Because people need to persuade themselves that existence is better than non-existence. If people are allowed to go over to the other side, those who fear death will be forced to confront it. Another reason is people need people.
