We speak Japanese

because

1. We need a new Lingua Franca.

2. Japanese and Germans are smart because those are difficult. They don’t speak difficult languages because they are smart.

3. When We speak American we behave like an American, and there’s been enough of that for a lifetime.

4. We speak Japanese at a lower volume. To paraphrase Thích Nhất Hạnh, speak as though your lips are kissing the Earth.

5. If I speak English, people have difficulty understanding that I am thinking in Japanese.

6. I have less of an accent in Japanese. I use Japanese as the Swiss use of English to negate regional stereotypes.
