I'm frequently privy to hearing folks opinions of what they think their doctor or attorney said. Almost all these folks aren't clever enough to know what the medical or legal professionals were trying to explain to the people whom Socrates warned against letting govern themselves. Nonetheless, they repeat what they think they heard and whenever I hear them prattle on in their plebeian way of speaking, I invariably wonder, if the patient or client had an audio recording of what she or he thinks the professional said, would they understand it any better? They absolutely would not. They would, however, have the opportunity to play that recording for me and others who could explain.
