Some Americans thought that oxymoronic. After an unpleasant experience in Pittsford with a homophobe in what used to be the Bill Wahl's parking lot, I reconsidered. I suspected that I was wrong. Now I realise I was wrong. I was right.

I was speaking with a young person recently. She had very traditional ideas. She's a conservative. Nonetheless, her conservative ideology was well grounded in liberal democratic philosophy. Ideas defined by and often associated with John Locke, Immanuel Kant, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Thomas Paine and Alexis de Tocqueville (two of my favourites). Apparently, I was wrong. I was right. Yes, Virginia, there really is a conservative liberal democratic philosophy.
