I am continually struck by how Dr. Harari writes something incredibly clever, even wise, which he uses to conclude something entirely unjustified by the premise. Often times he makes an insightful observation followed by a very sound premise, followed by an entirely unjustifed conclusion, which he uses for the premise for several more illogical conclusions. Logic and self-awareness is often more important to historical understanding than information.
I taught international law at university. I am extraordinarily critical of attorneys, even more so given that I am an attorney (California & New York). Nonetheless, attorneys reason more logically than any other doctorate, with the possible exception of medical doctors. Within the medical profession, or any profession that mattcer, some of the most illogical professionals are in psychiatry. No profession does less research, and comes to more conclusions with such limited evidence as psychiatrists. There are many good, well-meaning psychiatrists. Too often, psychiatry is the business of getting people addicted to drugs so they can continue to function as a cog in the machine.
